Van Gogh's Home: The Van Gogh Museum. The Painter's Legacy, the Family Collection, the Ongoing Story (Jan. 3 - Mar. 23, 2026)
Vincent Van Gogh made over 2,000 paintings, drawings, and other artworks over his brief ten-year career. After his death, the artist's younger brother Theodorus (or Theo), who had provided Van Gogh with practical support and showed a deep understanding of his art, received the majority of the artist's works, with the except of the only painting that Van Gogh sold during his lifetime. However, Theo's life also came to an end some six months later, leaving his wife Johanna (or Jo) to oversee the enormous collection of Van Gogh's works. Jo devoted her life to enhancing her brother-in-law's renown by lending Van Gogh's works to exhibitions, selling them, and organizing and publishing his vast correspondence. To ensure that the collection would not be dispersed, Jo's son, Vincent Willem, formed the Vincent van Gogh Foundation, and went to great lengths to establish a Van Gogh museum.
In addtition to over 30 works by the artist from the Van Gogh Museum collection, this exhibition presents four invaluable letters written by Van Gogh while also introducing the family's deep and enduring affection for the artist and their history.
